The priests and prophets in Judah were scoffing at God’s message through Isaiah. “There’s nothing great about the prophet’s message.” Isaiah’s teaching was ridiculed. In their pompous, self-righteous mind Isaiah’s message was just “Sunday School moralizing,” a kind of “VeggieTales.” Like today, those who disdain the teaching of biblical truth and assert their anti-Christian ideologies. The evils spoken and committed are assigned to the victims of crime, not the perpetrators. In our day, as in Isaiah’s day, rejection of the Word of God led to further intellectual arrogance. When the light is refused, the simplest things become more difficult. The truth is, if you don’t respond to the Word of God it becomes more difficult to get it. One cannot because they will not.
