Angels Unawares

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:2

The Bible reveals what we need to know about angels, not too much and not too little. This is because all Scripture is profitable to us. There are biblical guard rails that will keep us from getting in the ditches of foolish thought and behavior. Every ministry of angels is under God’s direction. They can do nothing independently or take it upon themselves to do anything. Their ministry is not always visible (can’t see them or hear them). God does not want us to become preoccupied with the supernatural (for example, angels) because He wants attention focused on Jesus Christ and the Word of God, not on angels. With this said, we are told that it is possible to entertain angels and be unaware of their nature. Remember Abraham (Gen. 18:2). The truth here is that God is pleased when we serve one another, being mindful that such service is being offered directly to Him (Matt. 25:31-46). Meditate on this: “When you practice hospitality you may be helping a messenger of God without realizing it” (NKJV Study Bible). Acts of kindness can be bigger than we think.
