Avoiding Quarrels

“Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.” Romans 12.17

Uncontrolled anger which leads to verbal or physical conflict. It involves the breaking off of friendly relations. That is one way of defining a quarrel. Perhaps you grew up in a home which was strife ridden. What marks did it leave upon you? If you are a Christian, love steps forward and shows the way to avoid quarrels. “Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife” (Prov. 17:1). There are values in creating a relationship or a home where discord does not rule. An atmosphere of peace is a luxury which you cannot afford to do without. One of the prerequisites for harmony in a home, church, or work place is patience (“A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention” Prov. 15:18). Measure yourself: What is your reaction when you are in a hurry and others are not? When you have a lot to do and no one seems to care or offer to help? When others, who should, do not consult you or include you in their plans? God rules over all our circumstances and gives us His rules for handling dissension and difficult people. How sweet is God’s peace.
