Circumstantial Theology

“But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster.”
Jeremiah 44:17

Election Day is upon us. At this point we do not know what kind of government we will experience in the next four years. Israel’s story as recounted in Jeremiah is loaded with truth we need (see especially Jer. 43-46). God was disciplining Israel by the armies of Babylon. Israel had become so hard-hearted that they interpreted previous times of prosperity as blessings given by “the queen of heaven.” The men and women had been duped by misinterpreting current events (Jer. 44:19). The goddess Astarte was a fiction. What does all this have to do with us? At this time millions of men and women have colluded in the belief that it is to our nation’s benefit to slaughter infants in the womb. “Reproductive freedom” is disguised language for the selfish design of eliminating pre-born children for the sake of convenience and personal gain. There are many other factors that flow into our present political toxic thinking. Abortion is only one of those. Pray that God’s people will experience a revival of unconditional obedience to Him no matter what the outcome is of this Presidential Election. God is not a Democrat or a Republican. He Is the righteous King over all the nations. We are to receive our orders for thought and living from the Word of God, not the slick ads of political aspirants.

“O Holy and Just God in heaven, have mercy on us as a nation. Give us the wisdom and obedient endurance to live by your revealed will in the Scriptures no matter what our circumstances may be.”
