Dark Days

“Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.” Isaiah 50:10

Israel’s Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, is revealed as God’s Servant in Isaiah 50:4-11. How was Israel to respond to the humiliation of the Servant? Believers, yet despondent, are addressed (50:10). We, as Christ’s people, will have days “when the unexplainable happens, the dark sinister thing that doesn’t make sense, when our experience is against us, when we can feel no inspiration, when all we have believed seems crushed and Satan laughs and tells us our faith is a fraud” (Vance Havner). As faithful followers of Jesus, we may pass through the darkness of affliction and death, but beyond is the celestial city. “God trusts some of His children with a walk in the darkness. They may even so leave this world. But He will raise them all in the morning” (Havner). Be encouraged . We may glorify our Lord, even more, when we trust Him regardless of the darkness and difficulties of the day.

“O Lord, keep me faithful to you, when you seem to hide your face. Keep me going forward when despondency stalks me.”
