Does Jesus Love Me?

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” Romans 8:35

“Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so.” Do you remember that little song many of us sang in our early years in Sunday School? It carries a refrain we would do well to remember. But does Jesus love people in different ways? We know that He has love for fallen humanity (Jn. 3:16). However, that is not the same love Jesus has set upon those who have placed their faith in Him for eternal life. For those who belong to Jesus His love is not threatened by any of the miseries of life. We experience those things that beat us down, but that is not a denial of Jesus’ love for us. A dead-end job, a single mother with children trying to survive on a limited budget doesn’t mean God is mad at us. Being harassed and mocked because you love Christ doesn’t mean He has you in the penalty box. Being murdered for one’s faith. Remember Stephen the martyr (Acts 7:59)? Martyrs for Jesus Christ are loved to the end of life and forever. The love of Christ for His children is proven by His love, not by our experiences. Suffering has always been the lot of the godly. As many as 600,000 Christians are killed every year for their faith. Whatever your mood is at this time, get a firm grip on the pledge of Christ’s love for you.

“My God shall be my strength In sorrow’s bitter hour; In loneliness and loss I plead His sovereign power, no harm can even pass His perfect will, and in His love my heart is still.”
