“The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.” Psalm 34:7

David’s life was a battle with fears. On one occasion while running from King Saul who was trying to kill David, we see David resorting to pretending to be insane to gain protection from Achish, a Philistine king (1 Sam. 21:10-15). Then soon thereafter David requests sanctuary protection from the king of Moab for his parents, and yet David says, “Please let my father and mother stay with you, till I know what God will do for me” (1 Sam. 22:3). Mix all this with David celebrating God’s care for him (Psa. 34:1-10). Do you have some present fears? How about discovering someone has stolen the use of your credit card or being told that you have an aggressive form of cancer? Fear can make us indulge in unwise decisions. Like David it is possible to move from fear to faith. David’s prayer is revealing (Psa. 34). He chose to bless the Lord, opened his heart to God’s Word, acknowledged his fears, and reveled in God’s resources. God can and does place His angels as our security guards. God strains all our circumstances through the sifter of His perfect love. It makes the flour lighter and gets out all the lumps.
