“For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” Romans 11:34-35

It has been said that some of God’s tracks He has left plain to us, but others are beyond us. There is no greater doxology than is found in Romans 11:33-36. If you want to keep a sound mind in a mad world, memorize these verses and learn to praise God. We will never be able to plumb the depths of God’s mind. He has given us what we need to know about Him through revelation. If you are puzzled by God’s ways, that is humbling. He gives grace to the humble. We too often get stuck in an asking relationship with God. He wants us to bring our needs to Him, but God is to be praised for the greatness of His grace. No one can earn His favor or make Him their debtor. We try to when we think we have caught God in some fault like, “life would be better if I were smarter, taller, better-looking.” We try it when we think we have caught God in an injustice like, “It’s not right that I should be sick when my friends are all well.” Do we think that God owes us justice? We cannot give God anything that is not already His. We are never in a position to negotiate with God. We must nail this down in our minds; nothing flows to us from God because of debt.
