God’s Attention to Details

“Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me.” Psalm 56:9

Is God for you or against you? Why would any Christian think God is against them? David was convinced that God was for him and it was in an extremely dangerous and difficult time. The life of a fugitive is one of constant adrenaline rushes and restless sleep. Saul was hot on David’s trail. The only thing to do was rush into a Philistine city and pretend he was crazy. It worked (1 Sam. 21:10-15). Now to the theological side of things. David prayed, “so swift is prayer to reach the sky, So kind is God to me.” There is a time and place for fox hole praying. Faith does not mean that we can’t have moments of fear. Spurgeon says it this way: “Who will restrain prayer when it is so potent? Who will seek any other ally than God, who is instantly present so soon as we give the ordained signal, by which we testify both our need and our confidence?” David knew God. People were not bigger than God. This is why Paul quoted this verse in Romans 8:31. Check it out. We are not to just stand there and feed our fears. We must look to our Redeemer who will deliver us. It is possible to think that God is against us. Maybe we have let people become bigger than God. Perhaps that pessimistic streak in us takes over. Are you in a tight place? Do you know the right things about God? Well then, get about the work of praising God. Take a look at the repetition in 56:10. David goes on to talk to himself and sings praises to God at the same time. David’s tears were in God’s bottle (56:8). God’s attention to every detail in our lives is no mere sugar pill. It is the real thing in a tough time.

Because of Christ, God is for us. H

A time to pray!
