God’s Gift

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

How do you know that God loves you? God the Son left the glory and inestimable joys of heaven to live in a world with its fists in God’s face. The very nature of love is found in the word “gave.” Love is giving. It is an act of sacrifice. But a sacrifice that has its source in a holy and righteous God. Compared to heaven this earth was a pig’s sty. We are at the very heart of the gospel in having been given what was most dear to God the Father, the unique, incomparable Son. No other is or can be the Son of God as He is. The only way into God’s eternal presence is by believing. Belief consists of accepting something, not doing something. Do not be fooled. The faith required is no better than the one or thing in whom or where it is placed. Faith receives God’s gift. Have you done so? If so, then rejoice in the forgiveness and eternal life He offers. Why did He do this? It was to suffer and die and in so doing He bore the penalty for sins. God’s great gift of eternal life is available to anyone.
