“So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation – if indeed you you have tasted that the Lord is good.” 1 Peter 2:1-2

Getting from a 7 lb, 6 oz infant to a 5 ft or 6 ft adult takes time and nutritional eating habits. The desire to tear others down because they have what I don’t have is bad for spiritual health. Envy seeks to deny and defame the real good of others. Saying things that are designed to harm the reputation and characters of others must be replaced by commending the admirable traits of other believers and encouraging them by faith-building words. Growing to maturity in the faith requires a ravenous appetite for Bible truth. It is called “spiritual” and “pure” because it informs us, builds the conscience, enlightens the mind, develops our reasoning process, and makes it possible to know God. Do you sense the urgency in this command? A baby who is hungry and wants to be fed will let you know it. Have nutritional contaminates diminished your desire for the nourishment of God’s Word? What are we doing to satisfy our hunger for knowing God and His Word?
