Hard Heads

“Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces, and your forehead as hard as their foreheads.” Ezekiel 3:8

“Don’t be hardheaded.” Have you ever been on the receiving end of that statement? In what may seem as a strange qualification for the prophet Ezekiel, it is important to understand Israel’s spiritual condition at the time as being “hardheaded and hardhearted” (3:7). God made Ezekiel hardheaded regarding the truth. It was necessary in the face of evil and hard hearts. Living among those who are dug-in resistant to the truth of God’s Word and the gospel, Christians need to ask themselves are we determined to stay by the authority of God’s Word no matter what the cost? We must trust God to provide us with the emotional resources needed to face the challenges of a hostile, secular society and even Christians who are trying to live in the soft middle of spiritual opposition. Dear friend, are you becoming hardhearted regarding the demands of Jesus? Are you studying the Scriptures? Are you involved in a church which is unashamed of the truth? How is your prayer life? Are you finding it easier to duck challenges to the Christian faith? The gospel of Jesus Christ is going to offend people. You may be charged with being a hater and doing harm to those who are living outside the boundaries of God’s moral law.
