“Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” Isaiah 6:10

Imagine a pastor being told that his ministry would be one of hardening hearts. There is a divine principle at work in such a call. Those who refuse to see the light of the truth of God will see less. There are none so blind as those who will not see. Isaiah’s calling as a prophet was to confirm Israel in her unbelief. On the surface he would seem to have been a failure. But the truth of the matter is that in varying measures the ministry of the gospel hardens hearts. The Word of God brings man’s hardness to the surface. To put it another way, light reveals the blindness of the people. This may very well be happening in your own church, or in our nation for that fact. The story is told of a miner who was caught in a cave-in and had a light sent down to him. He said, “Why doesn’t someone turn on a light.” It took a light to reveal that he was blind. Resistance to the gospel pays a deadly price.

Keep on praying for those who have not believed in Christ. It is true of those who could not believe because they would not believe.
