“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

There is nothing more astounding in God’s universe than the fact that “God in his mercy refused to reckon our sins against us or require us to bear their penalty.”** The apostle Paul, a converted Jewish rabbinical scholar, came to the heart of the atonement of Jesus Christ in 2 Corinthians 5:21. It has been said, “Mysterious and awful as this thought is, it is the key to the whole of the New Testament.”** It must be added to this what “Martin Luther wrote to a monk in distress about his sins: Learn to know Christ and him crucified. Learn to sing to him and say ‘Lord Jesus, you are my righteousness, I am your sin. You took on you what was mine; yet set on me what was yours. You become what you were not, that I might become what I was not.’ “ Praise God for our sinless Savior, His substitution on our behalf, and the satisfaction of God that He considers us to be saints when we receive Christ’s righteousness.
In all the bluster and fury in this election season, we must keep the most important thing the most important thing.
H
Reflect:
Have you received Christ’s righteousness?
Is there someone from whom you must pray to receive God’s reconciliation?
