“Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust.” 1 Peter 2:18

No matter what kind of work we do there is a universal job description for Christians. Most of the jobs in the first century were filled by slaves. No doubt when Peter wrote his letter to churches scattered throughout what is today Turkey there was a sizable number of slaves in the congregations. Ultimately, slavery was undermined by the teachings of the Bible. Today, since believers are servants/slaves of God (1 Pet. 2:17), there is a God-honoring way we are to go about our work. Our labor should be done to please the Lord. You may not enjoy your job. But serve the Lord where you are. That tedious job I once had working to label paint cans (no automation at that time) was boring but it gave me an opportunity to witness for Christ. No matter what the circumstances, turn injustices over to the Lord. Don’t take matters into your own hands. Take your “complaints” to the boss or to a union representative if possible. Our example in the work place should lead to redemptive influences for other believers and unbelievers.
