Let The Nations Be Glad

“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, Selah, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations.” Psalm 67:1-2

The Great Commission in the Old Testament?! Yes it is. God called Israel into existence through Abraham (Gen. 12:1-3). The psalms of the OT show us how to express our zeal for world evangelization. Psalm 67 reveals the divine design of the Abrahamic Covenant. There is an atmosphere of hope in the OT that the truth of God’s salvation would reach to all the people groups of the world and that these nations would come and worship the true God. Psalm 67 was sung by Israel as a prayer to see the Gentiles experience the spill-over of the mercies of God. Connected with this is the hope of the blessings of the Messiah’s coming kingdom on earth. Are we praying that God would bless the nations with His salvation? Are our Christian homes beacons of light in our communities? Am I giving generously to world missions? We need more churches infused with the urgency of spreading the gospel around the world. World missions is love on the long march to the unreached for Christ. Read Psalm 67 with the awareness of God’s heart for the world that spans all generations.
