Living Stones

“You yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 2:5

If you are a born again Christian, there are no other kind. Do you realize that you are a living stone in the body of believers? This is so because you are connected to Jesus Christ. We draw our life from Him. As part of the church we live and work together. Each of us is elected and shaped providentially by God, fit together by the mortar of love. Let’s pause here for a moment. Are you part of a local church? Do you attend and participate in a meaningful way? Even if you are a “shut in” (unable to be at church on Sunday) you have a role to play. True Christianity is not being a spiritual hermit. Church life has a variety of ways God uses to polish us up. Think of a rock tumbler. Rough and unpolished rocks are tumbled around in water. Through fiction we become polished. We pray for one another, keep in touch with one another, encourage one another. In the internet world we can text message, face-time one another. Get creative. Remember that the church is the best place to grow in the faith by learning how to get along with one another. It is a grief to see professing Christians cut themselves off from one another by walking away from fellow believers they don’t like. Jesus said, “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another” (Jn. 13:35). What kind of message are our lives sending to the non-believing world?

“Lord, show me how I can relate to my fellow Christians in a better way. Help me so that the flu epidemic, Covid, self-isolation, and such things will not make me a loner.”
