“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:7

On the surface of it, love “believing all things” could be seriously misunderstood. Does true love believe anything it is told? Absolutely not! Context! We already know that love rejoices with the truth. True love chooses to act on those things that God says are true. Love is not suspicious, trying to uncover hidden motives. Infatuation (the emotional substitute for love) is gullible, but love is not. When we love with Christlike love, we do not look for the worst in others because it is rooted in the sovereign providence of God. As James Boice says, “A mother shows love when she tells her struggling son that she believes in him, or her discouraged daughter that she knows she will do well.” Am I willing to give the other person the benefit of the doubt until all the facts are in? Is your love for another person helping to give them the courage to do the right things? Thank God if you have someone like that in your own life as you act on God’s truth and run with it. Am I willing to take the necessary risks that come with doing what is right?
