“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.” 1 Corinthians 1:26

Can we expect to win the unbeliever to Christ by logical arguments? Paul reminded the Corinthian believers of their humble origins. In one sense they were “special needs” people but were not intellectual inferiors to all the unsaved around them. The same is true of any believer in Jesus Christ. All human beings have the special need of being totally blind to their need of forgiveness in Jesus Christ. The humbling truth is that the lost cannot be won by logical arguments or intellectual debate. There are those who think that Christian apologetics can be used to disarm the unbeliever by proofs to remove their intellectual stumbling blocks and make them more winnable to Christ. The basic problem of the unbeliever is not intellectual. It is a moral and spiritual darkness that only the Spirit of God can penetrate. Be encouraged, dear Christian, that human wisdom melts in the presence of the power of the gospel. God is not looking for Phi Beta Kappas to save and do His work. Nor is He looking for millionaires, or famous athletes, or celebrities, or powerful people to make the cross of Christ more impressive. God uses grace transformed, formally spiritually blind beggars, to tell other spiritually blind beggars where they can find the bread of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. H
A time to pray: “O God of all grace, may I never back away from presenting the gospel prayerfully and adorned by a godly life.”
