“By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.” 1 John 4:13

The invisibility of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit in our experience as Christians is not as it seems. The believer in Jesus Christ will see the evidence of God the Spirit in our lives. We can’t see the wind, but we can see its effects. The Holy Spirit stirs up hunger for God within us (Rom. 8:1-5). The Holy Spirit creates a sensitivity to sin within us (Rom. 7:18). The Holy Spirit initiates a struggle within us (Gal. 5:17). The Holy Spirit produces a change of life (Gal. 5:22-23). The unloving, unkind, self-centered me becomes thoughtful of others, courteous, patient, and pleasant to be with. The Holy Spirit seals us and gives us assurance that we belong to God (Eph. 1:3; 2 Cor. 1:22). The Holy Spirit endows us with spiritual giftedness (1 Cor. 12:11, 18). When God saves us He does not leave us to fend for ourselves against the current of sin. It’s like a gris mill. Water turns the wheel. The wheel turns other wheels and grinds the corn. The Holy Spirit is the water. The wheels are our desires and decisions and fruit in our life. And one more thing. Don’t grieve the Spirit. When we behave badly we sadden and suppress Him who turns the wheels of change in our lives.

“Christ is the door that opens into God’s presence and lets the soul into His very bosom, faith is the key that unlocks the door; but the Spirit is He that makes this key.” William Gurnall
