“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,” Eph. 6:14

“You can’t handle the truth.” The iconic line from the movie, “A Few Good Men,” uttered by Col. Jessup may very well be the epitaph of the unregenerate human heart. It has been said that, “Satan, the god of this world, has seen to it that such terms as dogma, doctrine, and creed are viewed with horror, to say nothing of ‘heresy’ and ‘excommunication.’” The truth is that God has spoken in His revealed Word, the Scriptures. What the Bible teaches, that is truth. Christ’s warriors are to put on the belt of truth. The wide leather belt gathered in the short tunic and helped keep the breastplate in when it was fitted on. From it hung the scabbard in which the sword was sheathed. Preparation for battle means mastery of the truth and mastered by the truth. Satan’s battle strategy is to attack the truth. “Error in doctrine is always fatal, both in the life of the individual and in the life of the church” (Martyn Lloyd-Jones). Do you know what you believe? Find out. Know where you stand. Take your place in being an agent of truth. Do not misrepresent the truth by living without Spirit wrought change in your life.
