Playing it Safe

“For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” Matthew 25:29

Jesus used short stories to teach and motivate. They are called parables. His men had lessons to learn, as we do. We don’t know when Jesus will return to this earth, but we do know it is a fact. In the meantime, followers of Christ have responsibilities. God has distributed to different degrees our abilities and opportunities to serve Him until Jesus comes again. In the story, Jesus told of three individuals who were given differing amounts of money. The first two increased the value of the initial investment. However, the third buried his and was essentially lazy and indifferent. He wasted his time and money. What are we doing with what God has given us? We have opportunities to spread the gospel, serve others, and make the most of the abilities and time allotted to us. Are we trying to play it safe and think less of God than we should? Faithfulness! That is what the Savior is looking for in His disciples.

“O Lord of the coming kingdom, thank you for the gifts I have received from you. Time is short. I want to share in the rewards you have promised.”
