“Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,” 1 Peter 2:13

The Christian has a plurality of priorities. One of those priorities is government. Our thoughts must be thoroughly biblical. God has ordained human government for the ordering of life in a fallen world. It has specific duties such as raising taxes, governing business, maintaining an army and a police force to protect its citizens from evil, the protection of life and property. Some Christians seek, wrongfully, to keep their distance from politics. True piety, devotion to God, requires followers of Christ to pray for those in authority, to pay their taxes, to serve in the military when called upon to do so, and be submissive to the laws of the land within the moral boundaries of ultimate allegiance of God. To love Christ is to be a good citizen. It is especially critical at this time in our nation as evil designs are being woven into our governmental system. Our relationship to government is just as important as our relationship to other areas such as work, family, and church. Pray for our governmental leaders.

“The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity…and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.” John Adams in a letter to Thomas Jefferson, June 28, 1813.
