“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16

A storm came through our area recently. It took down trees which took down power lines. Living without power is something we are not use to. When a nonChristian is born again something supernatural takes place. We can’t feel it, but it happens. Theologians call it regeneration. This is the work of the Holy Spirit to give us instantaneous spiritual life. The power comes on to experience the change to reconstruct the image of God within us (Titus 3:5). This is what Paul calls the “inner man” which is the Christian’s regenerated spiritual existence that grows stronger in spite of physical weakness (“renewed”). This is the very heart of our salvation. From the Holy Spirit flows the enablement our new nature needs to receive the power to change our thinking so we can understand the Bible. Our will becomes set on the desire to serve God. Let the storms of life blow and our bodies grow weaker. It’s a hard and cruel world but the transformation of our lives into the image of Christ is the light that won’t go out. Don’t lose heart. In Christ we have God’s help and the hope of heaven. What more could we ask?
