Search Me, Part 2

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24

Searched before we fly. You know the procedure. You pass through a metal detector as does your carryon. I’ve never forgotten that Swiss Army knife that I forgot was in my backpack. I had to leave it with the security people. We all have our stories. If we ask God to search us and know our heart, what might be found? Christians should know that we have to deal with indwelling sin. Though it doesn’t have the authority in our lives it once had, it is does engage in guerilla warfare. Good health and monetary prosperity, like high grass, can hide laziness and negligence in spiritual things. Spiritual duties can fade away. Before you know it there is a little less prayer. We can grow less interested in Bible study. Nothing bad happens and we begin to think we can get along without talking to God and having His commands on the bottom shelf of our minds. Then there are those rabbit holes we can go down. Our sinful flesh can lead us off in the pursuit of moral and political causes. We mistake our enthusiasm to make this a better world as passion for God. We are capable of being duped and allow good intentions to coax us into ways that are hurtful to us and others, and which grieve the Spirit. How much better is joyful fellowship with God and eternal rewards. H

A time to pray: “O God, the Searcher of our hearts, what sins am I allowing to turn into cuddly pets? What feel good transgressions am I tolerating?”
