Security

“My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” John 10:29

Is it possible for a genuine believer in Jesus Christ to lose his salvation? Some think it can happen. Jesus, Himself, gives a definitive answer. His sheep who have been given eternal life will never perish. Rock solid protection is guaranteed by the Father and the Son. There Is no enemy who can steal Christ’s sheep from Him. Is such security conditioned upon continual obedience to the very end of life? When sin occurs it is to be confessed (1 Jn. 1:9). Persistence in sin without repentance is an invitation to divine discipline (Heb. 12). There will also be the loss of rewards (1 Cor. 9:27). It is also true that not all who profess to be a Christian may not be truly converted (Matt. 7:21). Our security in Christ is to produce a flourishing life of fruit bearing for the eternal glory of God.

“Do we think that the Good Shepherd is unable to keep the sheep entrusted to him? It is unthinkable that some of these sheep that are a gift from the Father to the Son will not be in the fold by nightfall.” Erwin Lutzer
