The Puritan settlers who came to North America in the early 1600s were called Pilgrims. These Christian men and women and their families endured many hardships in their quest to establish a “City on a Hill” in the New World. They came to what was then a wilderness with a strong faith in God and a vision of society living under the moral laws of God. Peter addresses his first epistle to those who resided as “aliens” scattered throughout Asia Minor. They were pilgrims “looking for the city which has foundations whose architect and builder is God.”
We begin our own journey through 1 Peter seeking to understand how God wants us to live as “aliens” in this world. Those who have dual citizenship (in heaven and on earth) need wisdom in how to live for the glory of God. HED
