Present appearances do not necessarily represent future realities. At present there is heightened optimism about changes that are taking place in America and in the Middle East. Will America’s government revive its commitment to what it means to be a Constitutional Republic? Will Israel be able to secure lasting protection from those who wish to destroy her? The disciples of Jesus were impressed with the magnificent architecture and the beauty of Israel’s Temple. They were shocked over the turn of events since Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and His warning of coming judgment. Out of all these circumstances Jesus confirms the sequence of coming events at the end of the age. He did so by using the coming of destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. (Luke 21:5-38) to foreshadow the Great Tribulation, His Second Coming, and the arrival of His Kingdom. Know this and seek God with ever greater fervency. Difficult times are coming for the church of Jesus Christ and the Jewish people. Don’t be deceived by false expectations. Don’t let fear rule your thoughts and plans. Live being prepared for Christ’s return.
