“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6.11

There was a time when the football game meant for all players to “suit- up.” It meant putting on everything from shoulder pads, thigh pads, helmets, to cleats. For all those who belong to Jesus Christ we need to suit-up for the coming challenges of the new year. Put on the belt of truth. Know what you believe and live it. Pursue righteousness. Right living guards the heart against the assaults of the devil. Pursue peace. Excellent footwear is needed. Be ready to move with stability, to be a peacemaker. Pursue faith. The protective advantage of unswerving trust in God is indispensable. Pursue thinking that thwarts the blows that can confuse understanding about the eternal compensation of momentary afflictions (2 Cor. 4:16,17). Last, but not least, be armed with an excellent knowledge of the Word of God, the Bible. The sword of the Spirit is a powerful weapon. The opposition is formidable. Learn how to meditate on Scripture. Suit-up every day. Be prepared for the battles ahead. There is no greater joy than the joy of the pursuit of God.

Reflection:
What are some of the things that pull you away from the daily spiritual disciplines of Scripture and prayer?
What can you do about this?
