The First Marriage

“And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.” Genesis 2:22

“The Disrespect for Marriage Act” is before the Senate for passage at this writing. Yes, it should read, “The Respect for Marriage Act” but disrespect is more accurate. The reality is, “This legislation empowers the federal government with these broad new powers to go after people, faith, faith-based organizations and others that hold traditional views on marriage, biblically based views about marriage, and gives the federal government broad powers to punish organizations and people that hold those [views].” For the sake of review, marriage is a good gift from God (Gen. 1:31). It is part of the creation order and not subject to human modification. Adam and Eve (male and female) were created as equals. Adam was responsible for Eve and Eve was answerable to God and Adam. Lest we forget, marriage is to be monogamous in nature and heterosexual (male and female only). They are to become one flesh, no triangles or same-sex marriage. Marriage between a man and woman is an enduring symbol of the union that exists between Christ and his Church (Eph. 5:23-33). Divine judgment will fall upon that government and nation that defies God’s moral law. Expect it. It will descent in a thousand ways. Fellow Christian, be prepared for the persecution that is to come to individual believers in Christ, churches, and various Christian institutions who refuse to recognize same-sex marriages. As Christians, we are to love all people with a love that rejoices in the truth (1 Cor. 13:6). We also must grieve over the increasing church-going Americans who say that they support same-sex marriage, having increased from 20 percent in 2004 to 40 percent in 2022. Are our own marriages communicating Christ’s presence in our lives? H
