There is an unwillingness in our day to think of God as Judge. Living as we do in an increasing Bible desert vital questions go unanswered: Will God judge everybody? Will all of the injustices of this world be rectified? Can one avoid the judgment of God and, if so, how? Abraham’s prayer on behalf of Sodom and Gomorrah reveals that “God’s righteousness means that God always acts in accordance with what is right and is himself the final standard of what is right” (Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology). God is holy, possessing separateness that transcends creation and as a consequence He is not stained by sin. This is a declaration; God is just, absolutely fair in the treatment of His creatures. The only way God’s final judgment can be avoided is through the provision of the righteousness we need which is through the work of Christ on the cross. This gift is made to all who place their trust in Jesus Christ. Are you there? “The solution for the problem of how God can be just and still justify the unjust is found in the Christian doctrine of redemption” (A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy).
