The God Who Does Not Take Risks

“Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish my purpose.’” Isaiah 46:9-10

The ill winds of strange doctrines blow in Christian circles. It has become fashionable, in the name of encouragement, to declare “there is definitely something wild in the heart of God.” “God is a person who takes immense risks.” (Wild at Heart, John Eldredge)
Though intended to incentivize adventure taking faith-building, God’s majesty and sovereignty over all things past, present, and future take a hit. Isaiah tells Israel and the rest of us that only the true God can predict the future. The suffering Jews in a pagan land (Babylon) are to draw their strength in the adventure of faith-building from the truth of the one true and omnipotent God. Take heart, fellow Christian, our God not only predicts the future, He does not take any risks in doing so.
