“Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, ‘My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God’?” Isaiah 40.27

We have all probably had our experience with someone who pretended to know everything, a “know it all” as we say. There is someone who knows everything, but it is a perfection not a pretended ability. God’s knowledge includes complete knowledge about Himself, a thorough knowledge of everything that exists and every circumstance in the universe and everything possible. To top it off, God knows fully everything about everything and everybody all the time without any need for re-call. When Israel was despondent while struggling with being in exile in Babylon – a time of divine chastening – she had to be reminded that God had not forsaken them. It was time for a divine poke in the ribs. To be noticed also, there was some self-pity, “my.” God has not noticed me. One take-home to God’s perfect knowledge is, in the words of A.W. Tozer, “That God knows each person through and through can be a cause of shaking fear into the man that has everything to hide – some unforsaken sin, some secret crime committed against man or God,” and further, “No tale bearer can inform on us, no enemy can make an accusation stick; no forgotten skeleton can come tumbling out of some hidden closet to abash us and expose our past, no unsuspected weakness in our characters can come to light to turn God away from us….” Is God’s omniscience a comfort to you? Is it convicting?
