“And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” Mark 4:8

When you read the story of the four different kinds of soil, that is the spiritual condition of the hearer of Christ’s teaching, where do you spot yourself? Hopefully, it is the good soil that is productive. Notice that there is life and fruit in varying degrees. What makes the difference? Some have greater abilities than others. But even so God is pleased with the good soil. There is warning in the parable of the soils. Complacency, indifference to Christ’s demands, falling prey to temptation, love of material success, enthralled with the pleasures of life. Such things are growth killers. What is the pattern of your life? What kind of decision maker are you? A recent funeral service became a reminder of how a life lived for Christ with the abilities and gifts given by the Lord made a major impact on the man’s children and grandchildren. The good ground of that 85 year old man’s heart produced love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. He wasn’t perfect, but he made a difference by Christ-pleasing fruit-bearing.

“O precious and kind Lord, I want to produce fruit that pleases you. May the power of the word work in my heart to show to the world the beauties and grace of Christ my King.”
