“For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. But be on guard, I have told you all things beforehand.” Mark 13:22-23

We live in a dangerous world. Behind the scenes of international conflict is the great deceiver himself, Satan. Before Jesus Christ comes again Satan will attempt to deceive God’s elect. He disguises himself as an angel of light. And by the way, his servants disguise themselves as servants of righteousness (2 Cor. 11:14,15). “One of Satan’s tricks is to claim to be doing good” (Reformation Study Bible). False Christs and false prophets will try to make believers (the elect) think that the Messiah has come and that the kingdom has dawned. These pretenders will perform counterfeit miracles in an effort to validate their claims (Rev. 13:13). The word miracle is thrown around to describe anything that is extraordinary. But that is not a miracle. The social media world is filled with bold claims about the future: that humans are nothing but naked apes in our climb toward paradise, that the climate is going to destroy us all if we don’t quit using fossil fuels, that the church of Rome is the true church. God’s people are not to be caught off guard by the ferocity of the winds of error that blow hard against the house of truth. There is a great deception coming and in many ways it is already here (1 Jn. 4:2,3). Our ability to be deceived is in direct proportion to our biblical discernment and the dominance of God in our lives.
