The Living Word

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

It has been said that “the Book of Hebrews was written to the Hebrews to teach the Hebrews that they should no longer be only Hebrews.” Hebrews was written so that we would no longer live like the world system, out of which we have been saved. This is accomplished by experiencing the relevancy of God’s Word to what is taking place in our lives and in our world. It does not become dated or unrelated to the human condition. It makes “wise the simple,” “rejoices the heart,” “enlightens the eyes,” and “endures forever.” It is God speaking. As we properly interpret the Scriptures, they are God’s voice. Beware of the quicksand of seeking God’s voice in our feelings and ignoring God’s voice, His Word. God’s Word is the means of our regeneration. It is the gospel that draws us out of the bottomless pit of human opinion and godless self-sufficiency. Can we honestly say that our thought processes and what we value most are being transformed by the Scriptures? Christian authors can have a place in our lives, but they stand under the final authority of the God-breathed truth of the Bible.
