“This Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.” Acts 2:23

There are those times when it seems that in this world things are spinning out of control. Biblical Christianity believes that God “does whatever pleases Him and determines whether we can do what we have planned” (Jerry Bridges). Is this some theological word game? It is not. In the only book God has ever written we can know that God is in control of all the affairs of the human race. That God reigns and is in full control is affirmed that “God ordained (reigned over) Jesus’s crucifixion. The cruel death of the Son of God at the hands of wicked men was part of God’s plan….if God can take the most unjust moment in history and turn it into redemption, then surely we can say, ‘You reign!’ “ (Mark Vroegop, Dark Clouds – Deep Mercy). Are you going through some great difficulty, some horrible set of circumstances that don’t seem to make sense? Find your hope and staying power in this; God can and does use the hard circumstances in our lives to accomplish his purposes for us. Our loving, infinitely wise, all-knowing, all-powerful, everywhere present God of the universe “causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28). God determines the function of every molecule in the universe. This tells us that the world is not on automatic pilot. God is in the cockpit at the controls. He takes no breaks nor is there any event which He does not control.

Is there a circumstance in your life, past or present, which makes you wonder about God’s sovereignty over all things?
How can Acts 2:22-23 help you process your thoughts?
