“What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Mark 10:9

Marriage and its call for unity is the opportunity to experience the power of God to demonstrate the true nature of servanthood. Jesus does not say that marriage is such a wonderful experience that divorce should never be pursued. He speaks of marriage as it can be, not what it is at times. It involves struggle, disagreements, difficulties, and even suffering. Seemingly impossible situations demand the grace of God. There will be times when the wind is in the face of your marriages, but do not let this stop you from seeking God and resolving to experience oneness in your marital partnership. Jesus’ strong words about marriage should have the effect of not seeking a divorce when marriage vows can and should be honored. Don’t use the word “divorce” and get comfortable with the idea. Beware of talking to people who advise divorce. One’s biblically informed conscience is not to be violated. Don’t let yourself get to the point of no return (a hard heart). God’s standards for marriage, divorce, and remarriage are not to be pushed away. The vows made in a wedding ceremony were made before God and witnesses. This calls for a commitment to permanence in the marital relationship.

“O Lord, it is your judgment that is most important. I pray that commitment, humility, repentance, forgiveness, boundless love, and massive doses of your enablement will rule the marriages in my family circle.”
