Rain is a necessity for all life. Heavy, moderate, and light rain zones are scattered over earth. Most importantly, it is God who is sovereign over how much and where rain falls anywhere. When God entered into a covenant with Israel, He made it very clear that rainfall on the promised land would be dependent on obedience to His law. The story of Israel in much of the OT is one of weather and climate. Though Israel was a theocracy with a unique relationship to God, the truth remains that it is the Creator God who holds the rain in His hands (Isa. 5:6; Joel 2:23; Amos 4:7; 1 Sam. 12:17-18). Even in the Great Tribulation prior to Christ’s Second Coming, rain is an instrument of God’s judgment (Rev. 11:6). At the same time God causes the rain to fall on the just and the unjust (Matt. 5:45; Acts 14:17). We can rejoice in what is called “common grace.” We don’t deserve the good things God gives to all in the human race. Be warned and be thankful. Adam’s race does not hold the future of our planet in its hands. Rain, drought, floods, and fire are under God’s control. Don’t let the politicians make you fearful and panicky. As Christians, we have the hope of a new heavens and a new earth in God’s time (2 Pet. 3:12-13).
