Whose Body Is It?

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27
“All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3

The physical body was created by the Lord Jesus Christ. We must never forget this. Theistic evolution says that “dust of the ground” in Genesis symbolizes the animal kingdom. Tragically, there are Christian theologians who have signed on to this belief. It is an insult to the creative work of the Son of God. Furthermore, Jesus Christ, God incarnate, carried out His redemptive work in a human body. Jesus Christ was resurrected with a glorified human body and He will return in a human body. Because of Christ’s creation of the human body and His redemptive work in a human body, we fulfill God’s purposes for us in a physical body. One of the great evils of our day is the view that “the physical body is not part of the authentic self – that the authentic self is only the autonomous choosing self” (Love Thy Body, Nancy R. Pearcey). In other words, the body is whatever you want it to be. Forget the fact that biological reality is determined at birth as male or female. The preferred language now is “the person’s assigned sex at birth.” That’s right “assigned,” whatever the individual feels like with regard to sexual identity, that is what counts. It’s what you feel that counts. As Christians we understand that our bodies were created by Christ. They belong to Him. Let’s give praise to Him by refusing to let our body members be used for unrighteousness. Don’t abuse the body. Don’t live for adoring the body. Live for glorifying God with our bodies.
