Politics and Our Missions Mandate – Part 2

“The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us. God shall bless us, let all the ends of the earth fear him.” Psalm 67:6-7

Marches, “No Kings” protests, Democrats, Republicans, Government shut down, elections. We are swarmed by politics from all directions. One would think the future of the world hangs in the balance. Not that politics is unimportant, but the resounding cry of the future is heard in Psalm 67. This truth is wrapped in the language of the Psalms and the Prophets. The nations will be glad because of the hope that God promises. This is a forecast of the coming kingdom of God on earth. At this point we continue (October 17) our four principles on politics in relation to our world missions mandate. In this phase of the kingdom plan of God Christ’s church is to be salt and light. It is to bring its influence to bear on the conscience of the nation. Its economic and moral welfare provide benefits to the church in world evangelization (1 Tim. 2:1-2). Finally, God’s purposes are not hindered by the decline of nations and human arrogance. God turns rebellious human beings over to the consequences of their sins. In so doing, Christ’s church may have to experience pain and suffering along with the nation in which it exists. God carries out His redemptive plan through the rise and fall of human political endeavors.

“Dear Lord over all the nations, keep my mind clear as to the call to take the gospel to all the world. What role do you have for me in seeing the nations come to Christ?”
