God’s Alarm Clock

“Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.” Romans 13:11

Do the words “apathy” and “luxury” ring your bell? They ought to because they describe the times in which we live. It’s our culture. Paul speaks to drowsy Christians. Wake up and show your love, Christ’s love, while you can. Christ’s return looms on the horizon. Wake up! This is no time for moral and spiritual carelessness and laxity. The gospel alarm is ringing. How absorbed am I in this present “night age?” We are called to be resolved in our warfare against the tyranny of sin. We ought to be getting up early in the morning of life to lay aside bad habits, ignorance of the Bible, being oblivious to thinking that everyone has their own truth (e.g. perception is reality), hatred of the Jewish people, the legitimacy of same-sex marriage, that killing a baby in the womb is reproductive health, that political violence is good if it furthers the right cause. “Lord, make my life a rebuke to indifference to the evils that plague the time in which we live.”
