Is Your God Big Enough? Part 2

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!. . . Even the darkness is not dark to you;. . . .” Psalm 139:7-12

David brings forward another ballast for stabilization in his life. Ballasts are carried in ships to steady them. Not to worry. We can be sure of God’s undivided attention. Take comfort in God’s watchful eye. Your God is big enough as you realize that He is near you in every difficulty (Psa. 139:7-12). Wherever God is present, He is fully present. He is present in the fullness of His being. “David is still meditating on God’s omniscience, noting that the reason why God sees everything and knows everything is that it is everywhere to see and know it. . . The thing that makes hell so terrible is that it is run by God. It is not ruled by the devil” (J. Boice). People pursue evil in the dark, but it is the fool’s folly. How near is God to you? We are told to “draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (Jas. 4:8). We can enjoy the closeness of God as we repent and confess our sins. Jonah ran a fool’s errand thinking He could get away from God. Meditate on that story. If you are an unbeliever and die having rejected God’s forgiveness in Christ, there is no running away from the fact that you will have to stand before Him one day.
