“For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray.” Matthew 24:5

The Trojan horse has become emblematic of enemies who disguise their intentions with what appears to be a gift. When Jesus describes the coming Tribulation preceding His Second Coming, it is not surprising that He begins with a warning to believers about His arrival. False messiahs will abound. These can take various forms. First of all, there are those who blatantly claim to be the fulfillment of biblical prophecy concerning “the Christ.” This is not limited to the coming Tribulation. The deception of the coming Antichrist is a powerful intoxicant to those who seek the idea of a perfect government and society. Karl Marx in his collaboration with Frederich Engles unleashed a grand deception in The Communist Manifesto in 1848. The devil’s finger prints are all over it. The promise of economic equality and societal harmony is powerful to sin-darkened hearts. Injustices can be eradicated by collectivism we are told. Karl Marx said: “The theory of the Communists may be summed up in the simple sentence: abolition of private property.” The Trojan horse of vote-getting promises of economic equality, lower prices, and a so-affordability serve as a cover for bigger government and suppression of freedom.

Reflection:
“O Sovereign and Holy God, open my eyes to those who are trying to deceive me. Guide me to those who teach biblical truth.”
When was the last time you heard a sermon on Matthew 24 and 25?
