“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

Life is filled with choices, but some are much more consequential than others. As Joshua challenged Israel to take the bold step of making up their minds about whose slaves they will be, so must we. “Slaves?” you say. Exactly, either slaves of God or slaves of cheap substitutes, false gods, the world offers. How can we make a difference in a confused and evil generation like ours? God’s grace (unmerited favor) is an appeal to make the right choice. How heavy does that thought sit upon our minds? Our choice to serve God must be unconditional (24:14). There is a cost. Salvation is free but discipleship is costly. We can’t serve God and something else.
