God Unchanging

“He said, ‘Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.'” Genesis 22:12

Does God acquire more knowledge as He dwells eternally? Does He ever get new knowledge about us? Those who think so take us to a God who is not the God of the Bible. Exactly what did God mean when He said to Abraham, “now I know?” The truth of the matter is this. God does not change. His unchangeable nature is that of immutability. He did not learn something about Abraham that He had not known. Abraham’s experience of the called-upon sacrifice of his son, Isaac, was a witness to a supreme act of trust in God, which He had always known. It was a resurrection faith. The writer of Hebrews testifies to this (Heb. 11:17-19). Abraham had faith to expect a resurrection. Can we trust God if we are asked for the loss of our own children? No matter what loss God brings into our lives we are to live with resurrection hope. To live this way, no matter what, it is proof of how much we love and trust God. “Lord, grant me the grace to see your perfections with the eye of faith through my tears, pain, grief, and death and know that you are a God worth trusting.”

Reflections:
Has God found me trusting Him through my pain and suffering?
Has some affection been allowed to extinguish the flame of a greater affection for God?
