“For thus said the LORD of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.” Zechariah 2:8

If you are a Jew in a bunker in Israel during what turns out to be a long night of incoming missiles from Iran, you may wonder about Israel’s supposed privileged place in God’s plan. Of course not all Jews would think like this. But still there is an abiding truth about God’s relation to His covenant people. In the sixth century B.C. the Jewish people received needed encouragement as they were attempting to rebuild the temple and reestablish themselves geographically as God’s witness nation. The apple of God’s eye is what they were, though it didn’t seem like it. One study Bible gives this comment, “Harming God’s chosen people is like striking the pupil of God’s eye.” Israel no longer operates as God’s theocratic kingdom, but she will one day become a regenerated people at the Second Coming of her Messiah (Zech. 12:10; Rom. 11:26). Until then Satan seeks to destroy the Jewish people. As for now, they are under a partial spiritual hardening. Pray for the Jewish people.
“….the Jew in the flesh is to be treated with a special kindness in view of the Pauline priority of going ‘first to the Jews’ (Rom. 1:16).” (Barry E. Horner, Future Israel)
