The Light of Nature

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” Romans 1:18

How will God judge those who have never heard of Christ? No doubt you have wondered this. It is by divine design that a diagnosis of the human condition is given in the opening chapters of Romans. In order to prepare us for the glorious gospel message beginning in Romans 3:21, we must first be given a tour through the human heart. A reality check; we can’t jump over sin and go right to the gospel. The wrath of God falls upon those who suppress the truth. Those who have never heard about Christ are held accountable to the light of nature. God has displayed His eternal power and divine nature with clarity in creation. This is the “Bible” for the man without the Bible. When fallen man looks through the telescope or the microscope, he meets the Creator. Look at the stars. Contemplate the vastness of the universe. Look at a human cell with its irreducible complexity. The man without the Scriptures is condemned because he does not turn to creation’s Maker. He does not turn to the power by which all the colossal force of creation is held together. God’s wrath is a frightening thing. It should stop us in our tracks. What role did God’s creation play in your ultimate conversion to Jesus Christ?
