Where is God?

“Am I a God at hand, declares the LORD, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places that I cannot see him? Declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? Declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 23:23,24

Is God in heaven? Is He here on earth? Is He in everything around us. In a song by John Denver, “the children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers.” That’s not God. Is God not now directly involved in the creation, like one who has set a clock and letting it run? Some of the early founders of our nation bought into such a false God (“deists”).The prophet Jeremiah puts the false prophets in their place. They cannot hide from God and His punishment. The everywhere present God of the universe puts everyone on notice. Unbelievers cannot flee God. Not even in hell can they be rid of God. He is there, but not His goodness. Believers in Jesus Christ find their comfort in the ever present God. David did in Psalm 139:7-10. In most of the passages in the Bible that speak of the presence of Lord, they have to do with the blessing He brings. God is always there. It was the Puritans who spoke much of Coram Deo, before the face of God. For Christ’s people every part of life is lived in God’s presence, under His authority, and for His glory. Let your thoughts dwell on that.

Reflections:
Am I guilty of placing God at the edge of my life?
How does He fit into my work, my family, my relationships, decisions, and even my private thoughts?
