Who’s Your Hero?

“Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.” Titus 2:2

We live in a culture of celebrity worship. The absence of truth is suffocating. The Island of Crete was spiritually dismal. It was the mission of Titus to establish spiritually healthy churches. The presence of godly older men was vital to the local church. Younger Christians need examples of what it means to know what true love is like and how to live it. Older men are to give of themselves sacrificially for the good of others. Genuine spiritual heroes are needed. It has been said that “the famous are rarely significant and the significant are rarely famous.” What is significant is older men who have been loyally loving husbands to their wives for the life-time of their marriages. Also vital to a healthy church is to have older men who finish their journey to heaven having lived hopefully, not afraid of death but tempered like steel through the heat of hardships. How we need older men who are able to handle pressures courageously. Men, as you are growing older, are your spiritual roots growing deeper into the God you love?

A prayer for men:
“O Lord of all wisdom, enable me to experience my final years so that they are not a contradiction of what I have professed to be the truth of what is a God-pleasing life.”
